The Makarov PM is the iconic Soviet and Russian standard military sidearm introduced in 1951, a simple and supremely reliable double-action blowback pistol chambered in 9x18mm Makarov. Its all-steel construction and minimalist design produced a pistol virtually incapable of mechanical failure, making it a Cold War legend still in service worldwide. Surplus and new-production examples are prized collector and range firearms.
